If you’re new to the World Wide Web, then this can be an overwhelming choice for you to make.

First of all…you need to to be aware upfront, the differences of a work at home job and a work at home business. All too often newbie Internet surfers that want to work from home does not distinguish between the two. Let me tell you…there is a significant difference! And I think it should be addressed. But, I’ll get to that in a bit.

Everyday I see individuals on forums that are desperately searching for a way to earn money from home. And when they are asked what they would be interested in pursuing, they don’t have a clue…except that they want to earn “instant cash.”

Well, the hard truth is there is no such thing as “earning instant cash” online. If there were, everyone would be following suit.
Right? Hopefully the above statement gets a unanimous vote. You can search all you want, and you won’t find such an opportunity.

So now, let’s explore the differences of a “job” and a “home business” and the fees involved.

A “job” is when you are hired by an employer or company to perform specific duties in return for a set hourly, daily, weekly, or monthly wage. Usually you are required to have specific skills and/or experience, and will be asked to supply a resume. Routinely, an interview will follow to determine if you are fit for the job.

Sometimes you will find a position where there is no experience required. And you will be trained or you will have to take an online test. It all depends on the employer or company.

There should not be any fees required for a job…except for a few instances.

For example: Sometimes a headset is required for customer service positions. Or, a foot pedal is required for transcription positions. Also, there may be a background check with a minimal fee attached. These fees are all normal and necessary in order to acquire the requested position. You are paid as long as you complete the job to the employer’s expectations and satisfaction.

A “home business” is a whole other situation…

With a “home business”…your success depends on sales. And for the most part, it takes a lot of patience, motivation, and hard work, as well as initial fees to get one set up and get off the ground. The fee amounts will depend on your particular situation and needs.

Fed up with eBay?-Work At Home by 

 For many people, their first experience of working online involves selling products on eBay. This was how I got started back in 1998 and I know countless other people that have done the same.

However, it is important to remember that eBay is not the ‘be all and end all’ - there is a much bigger online world out there. My reason for mentioning this is that I have spoken to three people this week who each make a decent full or part-time income on eBay but who are fed up with it and looking to move in other directions.

Having sold on eBay myself, I can understand why sellers do get tired/bored/frustrated with the auction site - it is highly competitive and it takes an incredible amount of hard work to succeed. In addition, it is normally the case that the more successful you become, the harder you have to work. Listing auctions, handling customer enquiries, packing, shipping, sourcing/buying stock, keeping up with feedback, monitoring the competition - selling on eBay is a tough job and it is no wonder that after working in this way for a few years, many people wish they were back in the land of the employed!!

Don’t get me wrong, there is good money to be made on eBay for anyone willing to put the effort in and many people enjoy trading on this huge auction site. But it isn’t for everyone.

Having spoken to numerous eBay sellers in the past, it seems to me that of the ones that don’t enjoy working on eBay, the particular task that they enjoy the least is the packing and shipping of products. Funnily enough, this is exactly the bit of trading that I grew to dislike too.

I (and the sellers I have spoken to) didn’t have a problem with creating sales descriptions, dealing with emails, collecting payment (naturally!) and the other administrative tasks involved in running an online business. WAHM - My Dream Come True

Being a work from home mom, or for the more politically correct a WAHM, has long been a dream for me. It started when my youngest daughter, now 9, was just a baby. I wanted the freedom to stay at home all day and watch my children grow up, but I also wanted the money that comes with a full time job. Well, I can happily say that I have realized my dream of working from home. I can also tell you that sometimes the dream world is a bit altered from what we perceive. My work from home dream sometimes contains nightmarish qualities.

At least three times throughout my busy day, one of my children will come into my office and simply begin a conversation that I can’t possibly keep up with. I have repeated my favorite phrase, “Mommy’s working”, until it sounds like my motto. Even worse is when they stand behind me with their little faces bursting to tell me the most important detail of their young lives, only to walk out suddenly and whisper to the others that “She’s working right now, we’ll wait”. Helloooo, tell Daddy!! After all, that is exactly what he is for - to contain them when I am busy. The most comical thing that I hear is “Are you working now?”. Honestly, you would think that after years of seeing me sitting at my desk and enthralled in the writing process that everyone in my home would realize when I am indeed working. Oh well. My dream is still a good dream, only with a few glitches thrown in.

I have, over the past several months, learned ways in which to stop the glitches. At least for a few moments. Here are my ways of dealing with interminable questions, remarks, and the ever popular interruptions that we, as work from home moms, will undoubtedly encounter.
Lock the door! Really, I don’t lock my office door. After all, I wanted to be here when my children need me. I do, however, make a grand statement that I will, in fact, be working on a very important project and would rather not be disturbed unless the house is on fire, someone is bleeding, or the dogs have eaten the cats. Working at home is one of the fastest growing trends in careers today. However, many people jump on the Wahm bandwagon without considering all of the drawbacks to working at home. While some people are naturally inclined to work at home, others find the transition more difficult to make. There are many benefits to working at home, but the drawbacks need to be considered before you make the choice.
 
The first drawback to looking for a work at home career is that your current career may not easily transfer to a work at home situation. If you work in the medical field or are a police officer, being a Wahm might not be an easy transition unless you are willing to change careers entirely. Sales and administrative positions transfer well, as do creative jobs like design and writing. For those in jobs that can not make the work at home switch, you will have to think carefully about what you want to do when start working at home and start investigating that field.
 
Cost is another important factor in deciding if working at home is right for you. Although many mothers start working at home to save on childcare, there are added costs to being a Wahm. If you need health insurance, it will have to come out of your pocket instead of being paid by your employers. There are also many taxes that you will have to pay. Your record keeping must be excellent in order to keep track of your income and expenses, and to fill out your income tax return at the end of the year.
 
Working at home with children is not always as easy as it seems. If you have young children that are not in school yet, it may be difficult to work when they are awake. This can mean lots of busy naptimes and late nights to get your projects done when they are sleeping. Family members can help take care of your children from time to time, but the responsibility of both your children and your job will be firmly in your hands. With older children, it is sometimes easier to work from home. But you will still have to start and maintain a fairly balanced schedule in order to get everything done.
 
Wahms have to be very self-motivated and disciplined in order to get their work done on time and correctly. If you are the type of person that is motivated by outside factors (such as a supervisor), then working at home may not be your cup of tea. When you work at home, there is no one there to look over your shoulder and make sure that you are still working.
